DNA Technology Today
DNA Technology Today
DNA testing has become the most effective and reliable ways to answer important questions regarding paternity. There are no more doubts when the results come forth and one can know with almost a one hundred percent surety whether or not the test results are accurate. It has been used in numerous trials now as legal DNA testing has become the most reliable evidence in convicting the right person who committed the crime. However, before the mid eighties, using DNA in the legal world practically did not exist, but with advancements in DNA technology, it has become one of the most accurate tools in crime scene investigations. That is why we see it being used in many different popular television programs. Not only has human DNA been used, but animals have also been tested and their DNA has been used in some investigations. There have been some mistakes in the early stages of using DNA evidence and even a scandal or two, but these have been very few and more positive aspects of using DNA in the courtroom have come than negative aspects. Even now, many who have been convicted and sentenced to many years in prison have been set free after a post-conviction DNA test has been done and their DNA did not match that at the crime scene. Sadly, many of these people had already completed much of their sentenced time in prison.
DNA technology has come along so much that today there are many companies that have a DNA home test, where by following a simple procedure questions regarding paternity or ancestry can be answered quickly and conveniently. For example, if you have ever wondered whether you have Native American genes, you can find that out easily and can do the test conveniently in your own home by using gene DNA. You would then send in the home testing kit, and in about a weeks time you would have the results. The procedure is very simple as well, for example when doing a paternity test, all you would have to do is take a cheek swab sample of the father and individual in question, send it in and in a week or so, you would know the results. It really doesn't get much easier than that.
As said before, DNA testing has been used in animals as well. For example, one very recent example is in India, where two farmers are arguing as to who is the rightful owner of a buffalo. They both have agreed to use a paternity test to find out who the owner is. Ironically, the paternity test, which will cost around two hundred dollars, is about twice as much money as to what the buffalo is actually worth. Therefore, the agreement is, that whoever is the rightful owner doesn't pay anything, but the one who is not will have to pay for what the test costs. This DNA trial will have a very negative effect on the one who is wrong but at least it will put an end to the argument. As DNA technology become more and more advanced, we will see it being used in many more aspects of everyday life.
